Active surveillance and monitoring of PRRSV using carcasses

Add to my reading list Remove from my reading list

PRRSv continues to cause economic losses to pig producers. Monitoring herds allows us to evaluate the measures taken to control or eradicate the virus. We need cost-effective monitoring tools that allow us to sample large populations of animals. The use of processing fluids and oral fluids are two cost-effective strategies but there is still room for improvement.

We must make efforts to adopt best practices for monitoring PRRS virus in large populations with techniques that should:

- be cost-effective.
- test more animals more frequently.
- be non-invasive and practical.
